My mom was sitting outside andiamo the yesterday drinking a tea when a news channel twenty anchor came up to her and asked her her thoughts about the debt ceiling. She answered that honestly she hadn't been following it too much, which I presume a lot of people (including myself) may have answered. In a way this was good and bad...since this interview was broadcasted on local television my hope is that it will encourage some people to be more aware of the president's and congress' acts regarding budgets and spending. I know it sure prompted me to spend a few googling the topic.
That's all for now, and no recipe today, Sorry!!
Follow me as I recount the somewhat ridiculous stuff that happens in my daily life. Some of it funny, some sad, and every so often I will throw in a philosophical quip. Also check out my recipe everyday, I'm full of em!

Hit me baby one more time!
Recently I have been listening to both Bspears and Lady Gaga's new albums...and all I can say is: Bspears>>>>>>>>>>> Lady Gaga! What were you thinking Gaga? That album is terrible. Bspears on the other hand, brilliant! Just Brilliant!
That's all I got for today folks. Here's you recipe!
Truffles
1/2 c cream cheese
1/2 cup choc chips (bittersweet, dark, or any kind)
bakers chocolate
directions: heat the cream cheese and chocolate chips and combine the two. Form small balls (truffle sized) with this mixture and place them in the freezer until hardened. Melt the bakers chocolate and dip the hardened truffle balls in, coating them. Then place in fridge or freezer again allowing to harden.

Moral Dilemma!!!!
So tonight at work we had a live music set and a pretty decent amount of people came in. After the band set up, I was in the dinning room busing a table when i spotted a bill on the floor by the counter. I picked it up, it was a twenty. I thought for a second about what I should do with the bill. I could 1.) yell out to the dinning room full of people "Who lost a twenty???" 2) or wait until someone asks if we found cash on the floor and if no one asks for it, keep it.
I went to the kitchen and boasted to my co-workers about finding a twenty were they insisted I should split it with them. My plan was to hold on to it until someone asked about it. However, I knew I absolutely would NOT be splitting it with my co-workers.
The end of the night rolls around and a certain co-worker splits tips. When we closed up...I went to gather my tips, to find that she hadn't cut me any tips (because I didn't split the twenty I found with her).
WHAT?!?!
So here lies the issue: 1) was it wrong for me to keep the twenty 2) was it also wrong for me to not split it with coworkers??
Enough ranting, recipe of the day!!!
Hummus
1 16 oz can chickpeas
juice 1/2 of a lemon
1 small clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup olive oil (more or less is fine, just add to your preferred consistency)
throw all the ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Chicago the next Reno?
Gambling Expansion Bill
Gov. Quinn soon will be signing or not signing the recent gambling expansion bill. The bill is hoped to bring in $1 billion annually, bring four more casinos throughout IL, and numerous slot machines to racetracks and airports.
Two things come to mind. 1.) First and foremost is a quote I came across on the internet somewhere: "gambling is a tax smart people impose on stupid people". Couldn't be more true. The last thing my fellows Illinoisans should be doing with their cash is gambling. IL has already seen a statewide drop in consumer spending since the recession. This is good and it should be expected. Don't got no money, can't spend any money. Common sense. But gambling has a different kind of appeal than regular consumerism because it offers the chances of fiscal profit. Think if Wal-Mart entered you into a raffle every time you bought something there, you may be more inclined to make purchases there. Gambling is a clever way for the state to get you to spend money without actually taxing you.
2.) The second thought to come to mind is : Illinois is fucked. If we are having to resort to expanding the gambling industry to offset deficits, we are in serious deep shit. Either that or the reps in congress are too dull to think of anything better to do. I CAN THINK OF SOMETHING BETTER TO DO, LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!! In my opinion, this bill is very retroactive in a time when unemployment is high and economic opportunities for IL are dwindling.
Just in: Senate just passed SB 105757: legalization and expansion of prostitution. (lol only kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised).
enough ranting...here is the recipe of the day!!

Zombie Cucumber Apocalypse: the beginning
July 14th, 2011
Did not have to work today...
Bridget: 1 World: 0
This particular summer, summer 2011, will be one for the record books...it is the first I have spent back home since the summer of 2005. The first month or so since finals ended have been a blur. Upon returning to Bum city, I began working again at my teenage job at a local bakery. Sadly, this neat little place is hanging on by a thread due to the recession and a million other things which I will not talk about here. I may have been a bit too outspoken about the way things we being done on the business end (I tend to do this on occasion) as the boss asked me to leave. It just so happens the boss is a good friend of mine and this little stint may have been the beginning to the end of our friendship.
So that leaves us near mid-June, and I am job-less, vehicle-less, and stranded in Bum City. For the next month or so, I ride into work in Springfield with my mom and spend 9am-4pm filling out numerous job apps. I get one interview the third week of June at a bridal shop. Although my references were splendid (a good friend of mine used to work there and was adored by the mgmt) I blew the interview with a very un-retail esque behavior. Interviewer: "So, how would we know, judging from your attitude at work, that you are motivated to make sales?" Me: "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh x10, well, I would just want to make sure someone looked good in their wedding dress. " Interviewer: "So, you would discourage a sale if you thought the wedding dress that the bride was about to purchase did not look good on her?" Me: "uhh. Yeah, pretty much". Interviewer: "Thanks, we will give you a call."
The next couple weeks I literally spend within a 20ft radius of our house-working outside, reading, tanning, gardening, being bored shitless. Eventually I get a break-a friend of my mom's wants me to house sit for her, which ends up being a pretty stellar gig. She lives in a condo, but the most important thing is that her house is clean, her fridge is stocked, she has cable, and there is a pretty sweet bike trail. This was the week I mowed my first lawn and luckily did it without dismembering any body parts. However, pruning the rose bush was a different story. And Jesus whined about his crown of thorns-he has obviously never clipped a rose bush.
While house sitting I get another break-another friend of my mom's has more or less gotten a job interview for me. I ride my bike 4 mi, catch the bus for 30 minutes to my 2pm interview. Luckily I get the job, I am ecstatic and start Fri, July 8th, 6AM. My first day was amazing and I worked 5 consecutive, equally amazing days. Which brings us, without further adieu, to today; July 14th, 2011.
