Gov. Quinn soon will be signing or not signing the recent gambling expansion bill. The bill is hoped to bring in $1 billion annually, bring four more casinos throughout IL, and numerous slot machines to racetracks and airports.
Two things come to mind. 1.) First and foremost is a quote I came across on the internet somewhere: "gambling is a tax smart people impose on stupid people". Couldn't be more true. The last thing my fellows Illinoisans should be doing with their cash is gambling. IL has already seen a statewide drop in consumer spending since the recession. This is good and it should be expected. Don't got no money, can't spend any money. Common sense. But gambling has a different kind of appeal than regular consumerism because it offers the chances of fiscal profit. Think if Wal-Mart entered you into a raffle every time you bought something there, you may be more inclined to make purchases there. Gambling is a clever way for the state to get you to spend money without actually taxing you.
2.) The second thought to come to mind is : Illinois is fucked. If we are having to resort to expanding the gambling industry to offset deficits, we are in serious deep shit. Either that or the reps in congress are too dull to think of anything better to do. I CAN THINK OF SOMETHING BETTER TO DO, LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!! In my opinion, this bill is very retroactive in a time when unemployment is high and economic opportunities for IL are dwindling.
Just in: Senate just passed SB 105757: legalization and expansion of prostitution. (lol only kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised).
enough ranting...here is the recipe of the day!!
Homemade Shampoo
- 1/4 cup distilled water
- 1/4 cup liquid Castile Soap - I use unscented, but you can choose your favorite
- 1/2 teaspoon jojoba, grapeseed, or other light vegetable oil
mix em up, put em in a bottle. remember to shake it before you use it!!! (if I had a dollar for every time someone told me that...)
Does that shampoo really work?
